Trip to WDW - Day 5 Magic Kingdom - Sun 12th Dec 2010

We are finally awoken by the alarm which had been set to ensure that we can make it to Crystal Palace for 8am. I felt better this morning so decided that we should try to do the Magic Kingdom and our ADR, especially as this was my 40th Birthday celebration, all be it 6 months late.

So after the obligatory shower etc, we drive to the TTC and take the monorail to the Magic Kingdom, where we find a crowd outside the park due to Disney having changed the park hours since we booked this ADR, as now the park was opening at 8am rather than 9am when we book so I was now worried that we would not get the quiet main street that I was looking forward to, but with 15 mins to go, the turnstiles started to open and the guests with ADR's were corralled to the right hand side, whilst the rest of the guests were let into the area in front of the train station.

As the train pulled into Main Street station, the ADR line was allowed to sneak though the tunnels and we were off down Main Street.

so we didn't quite get Main street to ourselves but compared to every other time we were there it was just about empty.
After the photo in front of the Castle, we reported in at the Crystal Palace.

We were called almost immediatly and were the 1st party to enter the Crystal Palace this morning, and make our way to our Table, when we arrive we find that it is covered in Mickey Confetti, which we came to realise that it was part of the celebration, as we had marked on the ADR that it was to celebrate my birthday.

Again the Chef came out to help Celia with the buffet and offered to cook some eggs and pastries that would work for her dietary requirements.

Soon after we got our inital plates of food, the Characters started to come around. First off was Pooh, who was in a very playful mode, as he co-opted a lady from 1 of the other tables to take photo's of every other group.

Pooh also noticed Celia's sweatshirt which had a Monster on it with a plate of cookies, with the word "Come over to the Dark Side, We have Cookies". He then decided that I was the Monster, by pointing to the monster, then at me and putting his hands to his head to pretend to be horns.

Next up was Eeyore who was not gloomy and also a lot of fun

Piglet came next and was the least interactive of the characters. But we were also in full eating mode by this time.

Finally Tigger came round and he was very bouncy and happy to play with us for a while, again I also think that they see the confetti so know that we are celebrating something.
(note on this photo the lady in the blue jumper in the background is the one that Pooh conscripted into taking photo's for all the tables in the area of Crystal Palace)

After all the characters had been, our waitress brought out a Birthday Cupcake with candle and a card signed by all the gang. So our advice is also make sure that Disney know if you are celebrating, even if it is 6 months from the actual date.

After finishing our breakfast, Celia needed to call her family in Mozambique, so whilst she made the call in the little garden area between Casey's Corner and the Crystal Palace, I walked back down Main Street to City Hall to get my Birthday button. On the walk down main street I was passed by the trolley bus, with the Dapper Dan's and Scoop Sanderson on the back. For those that don't know Scoop he is the reporter for the Main Street Gazette and a massive Pin trader. As I had left Celia at the top of main street I could not go off to try and chat with Scoop, but I can leave that for next time.

I got my button from a cart outside City Hall and walked back up Main street to meet up again with Celia, to decided what to do with the rest of the day.

We started by going to Tomorrowland, and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. The queues even at 9am, where minimal so we walked straight on and even noticed that some riders were coming through from the exit without having to get out the car. It was an even contest with Celia just beating me in the end. We did ask if we could re-ride and were told no, and as we got round the entrance we could see why as it was now a slight queue, but we did not really have to stop walking.

We move on to the TTA as I was still trying to take it easy, but after that I decided to test myself as Space Mountain was showing a 10min wait, so off I went as Celia went to Merchant of Venus to look at the merchandise. Well Space mountain was a mistake as the turns and drops started to put pressure on my stomach and I was in a bit of pain by the end of the ride.

We met back up and started to walk from Tomorrowland to Fantasyland, and on that route we found Push the talking trashcan. So that is a nice set that we had seen Devine, Push and Scoop during a single trip.

The next attraction was Pooh, and the new queue is fascinating with lots of interactive elements.

There are a couple of little playground areas for children, and the honey wall where you can interact with a wall of honey.
The ride was a fun distraction but I was starting to get the cramps again, but we pushed on and after another loo break we grabbed some fastpasses for Peter Pan's flight and went to see Mickey's PhilharMagic, which is the best of the 3D movies at WDW from there we went to Its a Small World.

Which although Celia is not a fan, I really enjoy and believe it is a ride that has to be done each and every visit to Disney as it has a great feeling if not the most story telling. It would be good however to get the Disney characters from Disneyland/Hong Kong incorporated and\or a christmas makeover like those in Disneyland and Paris.

Again I was starting to feel bad, but after another loo break, and an apple from the Liberty Square market, we went on the Haunted Mansion which was creepy as ever but good fun. We then went to the Christmas shop to get some more decorations for the tree, and found loads. The queues in the store were huge so they opened another till outside for people that did not need/want any customisation, so we switched queues and found ourselves behind this guy who was bouncing on the spot, which we realised was because he was soaked from Splash Mountain and was not drying as the weather was rather chilly but he was only buying a Dumbo decoration, which we also loved so I shot back into the store to add it to our purchases. After it was time for our Peter Pan fastpasses so we walked back via Sleepy hollow for some more water, and saw the wet man again who had decided to go for funnel cake to warm up. We did also then decide that Splash mountain was out of this trip unless it warmed up a lot in the next week.

We then made the walk to Pirates of the Caribbean, as it started to rain and my pain increased before another loo break just before we road.
As we left Pirates and to avoid the rain we noticed that Pirate Goofy was available for pictures.

We then did Tiki room, as it was still raining and we did not want to do the Jungle cruise in the rain, so Tiki was just about the last attraction we wanted to do. After the show it was time for some lunch, so headed to the Columbia Harbor House back in Liberty Square. I had the Tuna sandwich, Celia had the Veggie Chilli. We decided that as I was feeling so bad we would to stay for the parade then head back to the hotel so I could rest.

The Share a dream come true parade was fun and we watched from Liberty square.

As the Fairy Godmother came past I got a happy Birthday from her

Then as the parade came to an end, we started to make our way back towards Main street via the paths to Crystal Palace, as we went down that way the Fairy Godmother was over in the hub, but from her height she must have seen me again as she waved and wished me happy birthday again.

We wandered down the inside of the Emporium as the parade continued down Main street and after yet another loo break we left the park, took the monorail back to the TTC and were able to walk back to the car.

In the end we were back at the hotel by 4:30 and I climbed into bed for a nap, and fell asleep. Whilst I was asleep Celia ordered some christmas presents from Amazon, via the free Wifi.

I never did wake up that day and sleep through till the Monday.

We had nothing planed for Monday so probably need to sort out what is making me feel so bad.
